Mayor of Kāpiti

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Lead development through infrastructure including social infrastructure such as medical, education, transport, Three Waters and waste management.

    Apply the same consent process to all developers, with no exemptions for larger developers and ensure developer contribution fees reflect the true cost.

    Manage land zoning using KCDC hazard and protected site mapping tools while providing more open natural spaces and parks to enjoy.

  • Support the new housing trust to deliver affordable housing.

    Review and change intensification provisions as legislation allows.

    Explore transferring older persons housing to housing trust with a view to expanding the portfolio.
