Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Clean streets to stop drains clogging, especially seasonally in autumn when leaves drop from deciduous trees. Plant more natives.
Provide safe, clean water to drink with excess water supporting good health for Tasman Bay, avoiding injected substances without adequate public consultation.
Manage prowling cats, which threaten many wild creatures, by encouraging chipping, bell collars and keeping cats indoors at night.
Introduce kerbside collection and utilisation of residential green waste and kitchen waste.
Explore ways to minimise the accumulation of plastics in the environment.
Explore ways to recover energy and nutrients from wastewater.
Improve recycling systems to cut landfill waste and boost resource recovery.
Upgrade water networks to ensure safe, reliable drinking water for all residents.
Enhance street cleaning to keep the city's public spaces clean and welcoming.
Concentrate on Three Waters policy as it is the core responsibility of all councils.
Continue existing areas of dog exercise areas at the beach.
