Waikouaiti Coast Community Board

The Waikouaiti Coast Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

    Continue to advocate for comprehensive water management plans to address flooding issues at key locations.

  • Work with local communities on civil defence preparedness both at a household level and establish well resourced local hubs.

    Support policies such as better public transport, walking and cycling which help to reduce emissions.

    Promote council policies which reduce petrol vehicle use and support electric cars and buses through contracts and charging stations.
