Bream Bay General Ward
The Whangārei District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). two councillors will be elected from the Bream Bay ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Support development of mixed-income housing to improve affordability and access for working families.

    Rezone land to enable more affordable housing developments in high-demand areas.

    Increase investment in council-owned housing to provide safe, secure and affordable homes for those in need.

  • Create council-owned apartments in Whangarei CBD at market rates to provide additional housing, an income stream and revitalise the CBD.

    Employ advocates to serve the homeless by connecting them with organisations for housing, meals and rehabilitation.

    Cut costs for building consents for community-needed projects, eg local early childcare providers.
