Mayor of Lower Hutt

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Use water meters to reduce water waste and ensure transparency and accountability with the new water entity, Water Done Well.

    Focus on the improvement of the Seaview wastewater treatment plant.

    Improve the water quality of the Waiwhetu stream and continue to support the GWRC excellent work on pest control in our region.

  • Drive a predator-free Hutt to protect native wildlife and restore the natural environment.

    Renew the Urban Forest Plan to plant more trees and protect green spaces for future generations.

    Establish a new resource recovery park to cut landfill waste and boost recycling.
