Why I'm standing
I believe it is vital to have people on council who understand our community and who will advocate strongly for community facilities, libraries and community groups. Council is not a business, we are there to serve the community. I believe in a city where everyone has access to safe, affordable housing, people feel welcome and included and our environment is protected for generations to come. People matter most.
About me
I have been honoured to be a councillor for nine years now, including six years as Chair of the Community Committee, and bring a wealth of experience and community relationships to the role. I'm standing as a Labour councillor so you can be sure where my values lie. I worked as a vet for 30 years and bring an evidence based approach to decision-making.
My priorities
- Develop more social and affordable housing, in particular at the Summerhayes Street site.
- Explore alternative funding sources beyond rates so services can be delivered cost effectively.
- Upgrade the central library to address earthquake risks and ensure it is fit for purpose.
