Why I'm standing
I believe the current growth of council rates and debt is unsustainable, and there appears to be no plan at any level within the DCC to regain control of either. I also believe what the community receives in return appears to be declining. I believe this is a recipe for disaster, as both the local communities and the central government are beginning to realise. I believe the time is right for a hard candidate to run for office.
About me
I have a lifetime of experience in running and studying businesses. I have also been very well trained and bring a number of highly developed analytical skills to the table, coupled with good communication skills. Above all, I am a hard candidate. I believe that as one person's excessive rates bill is another's excessive profit, the current uncontrolled situation within the DCC is protected by powerful vested interests. I believe bringing matters back under control will therefore not be easy.
My priorities
- Eliminate non-core activities that are not infrastructure, civic assets or social housing.
- Increase efficiency in the delivery of core assets, including looking at some in-house delivery of these.
- Ensure stability in rates and systematically reduce or eliminate debt via the two above.
